Job/volunteer description: Job Summary
Old Ridge Road Farm is looking to hire a part-time, seasonal farmhand to assist with a variety of farm operations
throughout the growing season. The ideal candidate will be interested in agriculture, horticulture, or farming
operations and gaining first hand experience on a small farm. Farmhands w ill work closely with the owners of the
farm and be supervised by the Farm Manager. Farmhands will have the opportunity to learn about operating farm
equipment, greenhouse management, field cultivation, irrigation systems, harvesting, distribution, farmer’s market
operations and sales. General responsibilities include, but not limited to, greenhouse propagation, seeding,
planting, harvesting, processing, and packaging produce. This position is expected to work outside during all
weather conditions and will include both weekday and weekend hours.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
– Assist in greenhouse propagation, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, planting, and weeding crops
– Assist in washing, weighing, processing and packaging produce
– Assist with greenhouse operations and general farm maintenance
– Maintain, operate, organize, and clean farm equipment
– Assist at weekend farmers markets with packaging produce, direct sales to customers, set up and clean up
operations
– Assist with operations for our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program
– Operate farm equipment, heavy machinery, and power tools
– Operate general office equipment such as a computer, telephone, scale, and calculator
– Perform other duties as assigned by farm management or owners
Physical Requirements
– Ability to walk, stand, push, pull, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, and execute repetitive motion for
extended periods of time
– Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 pounds or more as needed
– Ability to handle working in extreme outdoor weather conditions
