Salary: $18.70 – $25.66/hour commiserate with experience
Dates/Hours:
- 20 hours per week May-October
- 10 hours per week November – April.
Required hours: - Tuesdays 12:30-6:30pm (May-October)
- Last Saturday of the month 7:00am-1:00pm (November, March and April)
- The third Saturday of the month in December 7:00am-1:00pm
- Additional hours: Flexible
Summary Job Description
The Farmers Market Coordinator provides the Champaign Farmers Market with on-site support and facilitates the Kids Kit program. They will work closely with the Food Access Manager and other Farmers Market Coordinators to ensure the farmers market runs smoothly, including any events or demonstrations that are a part of the farmers market. In addition, this role will facilitate the popular Kids Kit program. Kids Kits is a 10-month program, March through December, focused on providing free kits to families at the farmers market during those months. Each kit is built around a kid friendly recipe featuring local ingredients.
The specific responsibilities of this position will largely involve the implementation of the Kids Kits program, on-site coordination of the farmers market, vendor management and relations, and farmers market promotion. This position reports directly to the Food Access Manager. All applicants must have the ability to work outside in all temperatures and lift up to 50 lbs.
Responsibilities:
Farmers Market Coordination for the Champaign Farmers Market May through October
- Serve as the primary point of contact during the market, ensuring smooth communication and coordination.
- Be responsible for facilitating all moving parts and overseeing the execution of the farmers market the day of market.
- Address and take care of any issues that arise during the market, reporting these to the Food Access Manager at the conclusion of market.
- Coordinate the market vendor’s date scheduling and booth location assignments.
- Facilitate weekly auto payment process for booth fees through market management software and/or collecting any in-person payments and providing appropriate documentation for the payment.
- Implement farmers market social media promotion every week during market, to include planned content as well as live posts.
- Provide farmers market information to patrons.
- Assist with inventory and maintenance of market supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate and assist volunteers as needed.
- Record and input market data as needed.
- Assist the Food Access Manager with a variety of event planning and implementation responsibilities, to include but not limited to:
- Other duties may be assigned depending on the needs of the farmers market.
Kids Kits Coordination
- Develop 10 kid friendly, local food focused recipes to be distributed at the farmers market March through December.
- Procure ingredients, assemble and distribute kits.
- Find volunteers to assemble and distribute kits at the farmers market.
- Work with and Marketing and Communications Director to create marketing assets for the program that are used within the kits and for their promotion online.
- Facilitate chef participation and filming opportunities for a small portion of the kits.
Skills and Requirements:
- Ability to obtain Food Safety Managers License within 60 days of hire. Fees paid for by employer.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions, including high and low temperatures and rain
- Ability to communicate professionally with patrons and the public
- Must be dependable and reliably commit to a work schedule
- A self-starter that performs well with minimal supervision
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment
- Committed to good communication with the farmers market team, being on time, and staying organized
- Basic computer skills
