Harvesting Knowledge: Women in Sustainable Farming

Join us for a special field day created by and for women farmers. This gathering will highlight the knowledge, resilience, and leadership of women working the land, offering space to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. Whether you’re just starting out or have been farming for years, this event is designed to spark new ideas, build supportive networks, and celebrate the unique perspectives women bring to agriculture.

Hosted at Wild Trillium Farm, the field day will highlight the work of Katie, Emmy, and Christine, three lifelong friends who share a love of nature, good food, and getting their hands dirty. Together, they cultivate nutrient-rich vegetables, herbs, and flowers that nourish both body and soul, farming on land that has been chemical-free since 1960 and Certified Naturally Grown since 2003. Their farming journey is deeply tied to the landowners, Gary and Sue, whose fields gave each of them their very first farming experiences. To now farm within these same fields is both a gift, a long-held dream realized, and a chance to honor the practice of those who came before them. With gratitude for the time and knowledge this land continues to return, Wild Trillium’s farmers devote their energy to land liberation, food sovereignty, and the ongoing work of leaving the earth healthier than they found it.

This event will open conversations about the tools and pathways that can support long-term success in farming. We’ll discuss organic and alternative certification models, like Certified Naturally Grown, as well learn from The Land Conservancy of McHenry County how conservation easements can help preserve farmland for future generations. Alongside these resources, participants will learn about the peer-to-peer support opportunities available through the IDEA Farm Network, Wisconsin Women in Conservation (WiWiC), and the USDA’s Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP).

Our goal is to create a supportive environment where participants can connect, share experiences, and learn alongside peers who hold similar perspectives and challenges in farming.
